Flu Info

Seasonal influenza and H1N1 (swine) flu are the two types of flu we are concerned with this year. Both types of flu cause the SAME symptoms: fever, chills, body aches, severe fatigue, runny nose, cough, sore throat, nausea, diarrhea.  The symptoms last 5-7 days on average. There is no rapid test to reliably diagnose H1N1 flu...the only testing being done is for those who are admitted to the hospital or for clusters of sick people and the test takes days (therefore it doesn't help in diagnosis). Interestingly, if you are over 50 you may have some immunity to the H1N1 flu from previous flu outbreaks in the 1950's and 1960's. That's probably why younger people are getting H1N1 more than older people.

There is not much flu going around yet but we expect to see it start up again in the next month or so. We really don't know whether the flu will be H1N1 or a typical seasonal strain.

H1N1 Flu Vaccine
We have received the injectable H1N1 vaccine as well as the nasal mist ("FluMist") version.

We are administering the vaccine on a walk-in basis during normal business hours. You do not have to be in a high risk group to receive the vaccine.

You must register on line at https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov prior to coming in. After registering, you will print out your registration information; just bring it in when you come in for the vaccine. No appointment necessary, just walk in basis.

The vaccine is being provided by the government and the administration fee will be billed to your insurance.

Seasonal Flu Vaccine
There is a severe shortage of seasonal injectable flu vaccine this year and we are unable to purchase it from any supplier.

We have finally received our Flumist (seasonal) order. This is used for patients age 2-49 without any other chronic medical condition. We will be providing this on a walk in basis during normal business hours. Please call us prior to coming in so we have it ready for you.

Visit www.cdc.gov/flu for further information about both types of flu.
